The story

I spent nearly two decades in finance — from GE Healthcare's Financial Management Program, through NBCUniversal and Zocdoc, to nine years running finance at Earnest Analytics, a subscription data company in New York, through a Series B, a debt financing and its sale to Consumer Edge in 2025. Then I moved to Portugal, started Lucro Finanças, and opened a café in Parede: bagels, coffee we roast ourselves, a till, an online store and delivery apps.

Within a month the café had receipts in three places, delivery-platform payouts that differed from the till, equipment and coffee beans bought on our own cards — each one owed back to us by the company — and a statutory chart of accounts built for the tax office rather than for running a business. The statutory accounts arrive once a year, long after they could change a decision — and a business that moves fast needs to see its numbers while they still matter: how last month went, while there's still time to act on it. Every tool I'd used in my career assumed a finance and accounting team; a company with one owner and a phone needed its own.

So I built it — first as a ledger for the café and my own firm, then, as the pieces held up, as a product. It rests on one rule from every month-end I've closed: a month closes when cash ties to the cent. Everything a document leaves open is written down as a named assumption. Receipts are photographed. Anything that needs judgement becomes one short question. And the numbers come back as a note you can read on a phone, with the interactive charts and statements behind it.
